My Philosophy of Care

I believe good mental health care starts with listening. Everyone has a different story, and no two people experience their mental health in exactly the same way. I want to understand you as a person, not just focus on a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.

When we meet, I want to know what has been going on in your life, what is bothering you most, what you have tried before, and what you hope will get better. Sometimes getting the right diagnosis takes time, and that is okay. I would rather take the time to understand what is really going on than rush to put a label on it.

I also want you to be part of your treatment. I will explain what I think may be going on, what your options are, and why I am recommending a certain treatment. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and telling me when something isn't working for you.

Medication can be helpful, but I don't believe every problem needs another medication. When medication is needed, my goal is to use it carefully and find what works best for you while avoiding medications you may not need.

Most of all, I want you to feel heard and comfortable being honest with me. I believe the best care happens when we can talk openly and work together toward goals that are important to you.

That is what Novella means to me. Your story is an important part of understanding where you are today and where you want to go next.

Your story matters. Your care matters.

Care That Considers the Whole You

A Whole-Person Approach

I also look beyond medication. While thoughtful medication management is an important part of my practice, I consider how sleep, relationships, trauma, school or work, physical health, lifestyle, and everyday stressors may be affecting how you feel.

Support for Adolescents & Young Adults

I especially enjoy working with adolescents and young adults and understand the importance of building trust, creating a judgment-free environment, and helping them feel heard while also supporting their families.

A Safe, Collaborative Space

Above all, I want my patients to feel comfortable being themselves. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you come in. We’ll work together to understand what’s going on and determine the best path forward.

What You Can Expect From Me

Your first session is about getting to know you, not rushing into a treatment plan. I want to understand what brings you in, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope to get from care.

  • Your current concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, and previous treatment experiences.

  • Important parts of your life, such as family relationships, trauma, friendships, school or work, sleep, and current stressors.

Compassionate Care for Youth

For children and teens, parents or caregivers may be involved while also giving young people space to feel heard and comfortable participating in their own care.

My Approach

My approach is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I believe every person and family is different, so treatment should be individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.

Next Steps

By the end of our first session, I’ll discuss my initial recommendations and possible next steps. Depending on your needs, treatment may include medication management, supportive therapy, lifestyle strategies, additional evaluation, or referrals when appropriate.
