Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What Ages Do You Treat?

Novella Psychiatry provides care for children, adolescents, and adults, ages 7 and up. Treatment is individualized based on age, symptoms, needs, and goals.

What Conditions Do You Treat?

We commonly work with patients experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, and other mental health concerns. If your needs require a different level or type of care, we will help guide you toward appropriate resources.

What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. We’ll talk about your current concerns, symptoms, medical and mental health history, medications, and treatment goals. We believe in taking the time to understand the whole picture rather than rushing to a diagnosis.

Do You Offer Telehealth Appointments?

Yes. Appointments are offered through secure telehealth, allowing you to receive psychiatric care from the comfort and privacy of your own space. You must be physically located in Michigan at the time of your appointment.

Do You Accept Insurance?

Yes. Novella Psychiatry accepts several major insurance plans. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so we recommend confirming your benefits before your first appointment.

Do You Prescribe Medication at the First Appointment?

Medication may be recommended when appropriate, but a prescription is not guaranteed at the first visit. We take an individualized approach and may need additional information, records, testing, or follow-up before making certain treatment decisions.

Do You Prescribe Medications for ADHD?

When clinically appropriate, ADHD medications may be part of treatment. A formal ADHD assessment may be required before stimulant medication is considered. Treatment recommendations are based on your history, symptoms, assessment results, and individual risks and benefits.

What if I Need a Refill or Have a Question Between Appointments?

Routine refill requests and non-urgent questions can be sent through your patient portal. Medication changes and concerns that require clinical assessment generally need to be discussed during an appointment. Please allow adequate time for refill and prior authorization requests.

What Is Your Cancellation and No-Show Policy?

We ask that appointments be canceled or rescheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Late cancellations and missed appointments may result in a $100 fee.

What Should I Do if I Am Experiencing a Mental Health Emergency?

Novella Psychiatry is an outpatient practice and does not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, having thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, or feel you cannot remain safe, call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
